Adapted from Psalm 82
L: We glorify you, O God,
P: For You are the most high God, and hold judgment.
L: You give justice to the weak and the orphan;
P: You maintain the right of the lowly and destitute.
L: You rescue the weak and the needy;
P: You deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
L: Rise, O God, and judge the earth;
P: For all the nations belong to You!
Invocation:
O God we are your people. We are gathered and scattered on this your day of days. As we gather as a church, in General Assembly in Orlando, and here in your temple, we ask your blessing on all of our gatherings. Grant us wisdom and courage; help us to work for justice, and love fully. Guide us as we worship you in word and deed, and accept our praise. Hear our petitions and grant us your favor. We ask all of these prayers in the name of the One whose reign shall have no end on earth or in heaven, even Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Stewardship Moment:
Too often, when we reflect on the parable of the Good Samaritan, we forget that it is an answer to a “follow up” question. The original question was “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” The answer was “You shall love your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” When we bring our tithes and offerings we do both of these things, we show our love for God, and we care for our neighbors. Let us now receive the tithes and offerings which prove we love our neighbors as ourselves.
Offertory Prayer:
Giving, gracious, loving, and living God. We present before you these gifts, representing our love for you. Use and multiply these gifts, so that this church may through these gifts also show our love for our neighbor. Guide us in our work, all of our deeds, and mostly in our sharing; so that your name and story will be told throughout the earth.
Communion Meditation:
In Paul’s opening prayer for the Colossians, he writes: “May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from God’s glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience, while joyfully giving thanks to God, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. God has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the reign of Christ, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” We come to this table to remember these truths. As you eat and drink, remember: God who has redeemed you will also make you strong.
