Overflowing – A Stewardship Curriculum

Welcome – this is where you get your free copy of Overflowing!

“God’s grace simply and abundantly overflows into our lives and hearts, particularly as we celebrate the great gift of Jesus’ love this Easter season. Based on the deep theological work of the Stewardship Study Document presented at the 2017 General Assembly, the curriculum explores how we can honor the grace of God. I join with the Center for Faith and Giving in inviting you to refresh your spirit reflecting on the overflowing love of God throughout the six weeks following Easter with this free curriculum for both youth and adults.” – General Minister and President Terri Hord Owens

Overflowing is designed to engage youth (grades 6-12) and adults in a conversation about stewardship.  Beyond just talking about money, this six week study considers the broad spectrum of biblical and theological issues that reflect our care and faithful management of all things.  We are stewards “by design” and therefore we recognize that stewardship is a spiritual practice.

At the core of Overflowing is the Study Document (GA 1732) approved by the General Assembly of the Christian Church in 2017, which takes a “deep dive” into applications for stewardship in the 21st Century.  All Overflowing participants are encouraged to take a look at the main document and consider its challenges.  You can find it by clicking here. However, Overflowing was created to serve as a starting place where the main points could be introduced and discussed in a small group setting.  That may be a Sunday school class or bible study.  It might be at a church or in someone’s home.  That choice is yours.

Each of the six units contains worship, study, and “experience” intended to create a more holistic encounter with the subject.  As a group you may choose to modify this in ways that fit your cohort best.

If you are a facilitator (group leader/teacher) then you will want to download both the Facilitator’s Guide and the Participant guide; if you are an adult participant, simply click on (and download) the participant guide and you will have your curriculum on your electronic device – no need to push “print” (unless you want to).  Leaders who are utilizing the Youth materials simply need to download that version.

We are pleased that our General Minister and President Rev. Terri Hord-Owens has called the church to a time of study, encouraging us to consider using Eastertide for this important conversation.  If there is any way we can assist you as you engage Overflowing, do not hesitate to contact me (bbarkhauer@disciples.org).

A final word of thanks to our contributors and Senior Editor, Kory Wilcoxson, for helping Overflowing take shape and find a voice.
